I met Dulce at a District Parent Action Committee meeting.  Later we both served as School Board Trustees for District 43, Coquitlam.  I represented Coquitlam, whereas Dulce represented Port Moody.

I met Dulce when we served together on the Coquitlam Library Board.  Later we attended the same church and also crossed paths when she was DPAC President and I was a School Board Trustee.  We became good friends and eventually served together as School Board Trustees for District 43, Coquitlam.

I met Dulce when I ran for School Board.  Later I became School Board Chairperson and Dulce became Vice-Chair and we worked together closely.

When Kevin invited me to write about Dulce I wasn't sure I had  anything to add.  What insights do I have that are unique to my experience?  What made my relationship with Dulce different from her relationships with everyone she ever met?  I spent quite a bit of time pondering these questions, and then it came to me quietly, clearly, and firmly.  My relationship with Dulce was typical of all our experiences with Dulce.  Dulce treated me with respect and she supported me when I needed it.  Dulce encouraged me to step outside my  'comfort zone' and try to be more.  She worked with me, guiding me, problem solving with me, laughing with me, and talking issues over with me.  Dulce didn't try to bend my will to match hers; we exchanged ideas.  More often than not we came to agreement, but sometimes we agreed to disagree.  In short my relationship with Dulce was typical of every relationship Dulce had and yet it was very special and has touched my heart and enriched my life forever.

I met Dulce through our church, but really didn't know her well until cancer struck.  As a cancer survivor, I reached out to her and we became good friends through her ordeal.

Dulce was always involved in the community and that is how I first met her.  She was the incoming president of DPAC as I was the outgoing treasurer.  The next time I spent any extended time with her was when she and I both worked on a local political campaign.  I was impressed with her commitment and generosity.  I had recently joined the Rotary Club of Coquitlam and when I found out that she had originally come to Canada through the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, I was thrilled.  I proposed her for membership in my club, she accepted and became a valued member.  And, that's when our real friendship developed.

I met Dulce as my neighbour, as we had both moved into our new homes within weeks of one another and had lots of similar interests.  We shared each others friendship, families, and fences.

I met Dulce when she opened her family daycare and I took my two boys to be under her care.  We lived close together and became good friends, as did our boys.

I met Dulce and her family at a party at Eagle Ridge Elementary School in 1991.  My husband, Luiz Carlos, overheard Dulce's father, Pedro, talking to Alicia and Richard in Portuguese and he introduced himself.  After meeting everyone from both families we decided to get together on the next weekend for dinner and we became friends instantly.  After that we spent many Holidays together.  We have much in common as we also immigrated to Canada from Brazil.  Luiz likes to play guitar with Dulce's husband, Kevin.
